The Richard Avedon App is a comprehensive monograph of the legendary photographer’s 60 year career. Organized into the major groupings of Richard Avedon’s work (Portraiture, Reportage, and Fashion), the app showcases well over 1,000 works, many of which have previously only been accessible to a select few.

As the lead designer on this project, I wanted to preserve Avedon’s aesthetic with a minimal interface that pushed the photographs to the fore at all times, in the spirit of his exhibition and print work. I also wanted to allow enthusiasts to make selections and explore based on the aesthetics of the work itself at most levels, and created a two-up view that encourages users to not only juxtapose related works in spirit of Avedon’s own often serendipidous curation of gallery shows, but to move along the thread of an exhibition, publication, or era to discover more.
