As a child immigrant, my proficiency with Mandarin has always been how I measured my connection with my Chinese identity. However, through time and lack of use, my Mandarin has weathered to isolated islands of just the basic words. This piece thus attempts to materialize the transition from the recognizable to the foreign, and perhaps reveal also the spaces that can exist between them.
