YoungSet as a collective celebrates the idea of a group experience while maintaining the integrity of the individual artist. The purpose of our collaboration is to first and foremost enjoy the process of making, challenging the status quo of putting design over designer.
During winter session, YoungSet met twice a week: once to discuss progress and logistics, and once to learn about each other. The latter consisted of various group activities that were created and documented by the members. YoungSet also met outside of these times to work together and share skills in screen printing, laser cutting, and more. In doing so, we gained a confidence and drive to create that couldn’t have emerged alone.
Our works came together for a show/sale in the GD Commons, on February 18th. YoungSet: Make work fun & Make fun work!

My focus in the exhibition was curation. Since our main focus of this group work was collaboration, we decided to also include this element in the exhibition. As a simulation of a retail store, we displayed our individual works scattered around the show. After each purchase, we asked the costumers to create an original image on piece of colored paper the same size as the piece they bought. At the end of the show, the walls weren’t empty but filled with new images and established a new collaboration.
