Plagued by social unrest, the 1950s became a pivotal time for the American suburban family. The post war twisted utopian era celebrated patriarchal dominance in domestic life--completely disregarding truly meaningful social justice for a "good old boy" attitude. This table is an exploration of themes of female suppression in the suburban landscape and the atypical behavior of breaking that paradigm. By employing bright, bold, and graphic qualities to a very recognizable form (a serving tray/TV dinner table), I sought to empower and personalize a typically oppressive symbol of the American housewife.
