Discursive Design
In a world which is becoming more and more connected, we need to reevaluate the way we use social media and our interactions with our "internet of things". This piece was a part of a discursive design project in which I wanted to address the issues with privacy in our lives and our relationship with the internet. Keep in mind that in this project, I was not criticizing the advancement of technology, but our irrational attachment to it: technology is a tool that helps us reach a greater goal, not the essential element.
The artifact is meant to be a "sculptural accessory", something that can be placed around the home for aesthetics, hence the clean, minimalist lines and form. An inset camera on the front produces a live feed of whomever and whatever is in the room onto a public streaming site such as Twitch or YouTube. A speaker verbally states comments on the webpage in a robotic, anonymous, gender-less voice.
By posting our thoughts, actions, and interests over an online platform, (and with the
trans-humanist movement) we might as well film ourselves for all to see.
