Response to Home Test: a piece that conveys light, time, and/or motion
I decided to use the elements as actual mediums for this drawing. Fire was where I saw light physically formulate, whereas time greatly impacted the execution. Firstly the paper underwent several cycles in the washing machine and dryer to illustrate time duration and achieve the desired texture. Mark making with fire followed to create contrast and depth. Subsequently, in order to specify details such as the outlined spots, droplets of water were smoldered to create those bubble-like looks. The size of the droplets and the duration of the flame held against the paper all contribute to the effect. Other methods such as the taking away of the existing material on the paper and the addition of some chalk also complements the final look. The skull ultimately surfaced from the compendium of all the mark making.
