These bowls were created to experiment with the generation of form and how form influences the user. They play with how abstract ideas about usage and experience can take shape in and of themselves, without becoming secondary to other choices. This is used to make one think about what it means for a form to be a bowl and how we interact with bowls.
Early experiments with how the gesture of offering can create a space and therefore a form for a bowl.
Developing how little can be used to force the hands into a bowl-shaped, offering or receiving gesture.
Experimentation with using flat but elastic forms to allow an object's weight to create the bowl.
Attempt to freeze the weight of the object even when it is removed, pulling the elastic down to a framework
Contrasting the elastic, organic form with geometry
Following extensive study of modernist cantilevered chairs, this bowl was created using two wooden frames on pivots, with a single rod in the rear to prop them apart and keep the bowl open. If the rod is removed then the bowl can flat pack, as the inner frame fits inside the outer.
Early experiments with how texture influences touch and percpetion of a bowl
Developing how touch and sensation, combined with form, can guide the user to pick up a bowl in certain manner.

A convienient side-effect of the placement of the fingers means that the bowl 'holds hands' with a right handed person, but the intended way to experience the bowl is for it to sit on the fingertips of the left hand, as shown at the bottom. The shape of the rim was chosen to complement the space created by the fingers without competing with it.
