This garment is the mind part of the Hand, Body and Mind project which I was asked to create 3 objects that is about one idea and related to hand, body and mind. I chose my idea to be restriction. So as for my project, I chose to use wood and paper, materials that are usually not suitable for clothing and construct a garment that's aesthetically pleasing yet in some extent constrict the wearer's body.
I used the thin ply wood to make the main structure and paste the brown paper on it. I used the ink to create my own pattern on the brown paper.
It was quite an experience to just wear the dress, walk around and take it off. It's very interesting to relate this piece to the 18th century women's costume which are somewhat similar in the inconvenient back design.
