Description
Travel sketches exhibiting a wide array of experimentation in drawing media for urban analysis and structural observation of the built environment in cities visited in Europe and Africa.
  • Travel Sketches
On site exploration of medium and technique.
  • These sketches examine the built environment and natural landscape firsthand, with an emphasis on analyzing urban context, observing structural design and capturing the essence of a scene rather than its photorealistic translation. The work exhibits varying media, including graphite, charcoal, marker and watercolor.

Formal instruction was administered during the first month of the program, and then assignments were completed independently through travel. Trips were planned intermittently during breaks in the academic curriculum, and destinations for sketching included 36 cities in Europe and Africa, including the countries of France, Spain, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Vatican City, Greece, Egypt and Monaco.

The drawings were completed during my year of studying abroad at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles in France, from September 2008 to May 2009.
