Its an odd desire, to bring inanimate objects into the world. We become pregnant with the idea of their shape, so much depends on their coming to life. One wonders what we’re really up to.

Once in a while (it can’t be helped) it crosses my mind that I am a machine exquisitely equipped to make humans. I try to turn the joke around, to claim my own project. But its always a still birth.
