My practice of dance for 15 years has shaped how I
think, understand, and make. In this series, I explore how the methodologies of dance apply to art and design.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- a. Practice Makes Almost Perfect
Understanding of the 'basics', repetition, practice and strength
are all vital for growth and development.
- 4' by 5' Masonite, Acrylic Paint, Water, Painter's tape
My techniques for application and layering expanded through out the process with experimentation. - PROCESS
- PRODUCT
(Close up)
- Ballet looks effortless, however it takes an immense amount of strength, mental concentration and practice (time) to possess the control to make each movement beautiful.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- b. Transition
- Restriction exist and things must be planned.
However, form and beauty can be honestly created through aqute sensitivity- through the mind's ability to trust the body. The painting's dimensions are 4' x 5'. This piece was displayed as a projection on the painting in installation. However, to meet digital demands, a photograph of the painting was overlaid onto the video.
Most believe that dance is a series of steps that can be captured in photographs. However, it is the connections between the steps that awaken choreography; each breath out and in.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- c. Building by Breaking
Everything made undergoes a process. Process can seem frustrating, but it is the core of development and helps the maker fully understand and own thier product.
Materials: A collection of my sister's and my old point shoes, dental floss, screws, wood.

- What does it take to point dance?it's a process... Ω

d. Dance Tool
This is a tool creates a visual record of the movement of feet. It holds and disperses the paint for longer, so a dance combination can be recorded without stopping, making it ideal for expansive performance and art collaboration.
