Angel of Iran (Dirty50cc) is an exact replica of a “Basij” motorcycle. “Basij-e Mostaz’afin,” literally“Mobilization of the Oppressed,” is an Iranian volunteer militia of young boyscreated by the order of Ayatollah Khomeini. The Basij cruise around the streetsand police society for anything that disrupts the Islamic code. They are acultural fear creating a fear. Mud flap Iranian girls spray painted on the backof trucks, opium flowers, and the distinct color of green are present andassociated from male Iranian culture. Recently, “badly-veiled” women who arenot modestly dressed have been called a “corrupt minority” by Iranian clerics: “Drug traffickers are hanged, terroristsexecuted and robbers are punished for their crimes. Shall we let badly-veiledwomen be free in the society corrupt our youth?” The Basij are a part of this cultural campaign. Themotorcycle is a subversion of that fear and is specific for female insurgency.
