Puppet Character Accessories

I worked in Laika’s puppet fabrication group, building armature and costume accessories for characters in the Academy Award nominated, animated feature film, ParaNorman.

This is the "Librarian" in ParaNorman.  I made her eyeglasses out of sterling silver. If you watch the movie, look for her. She is a fun character. These photos show the incredible detail in the costumes and characteristics of each puppet. A very large team of artists work together in creating these characters.

This is the "bully" Alvin in ParaNorman. I made multiple sets of his wallet chains out of sterling silver. I also designed a way for them to be animated in the movie. If you watch the movie you can see his chains move when he dances. I also made arm and hand armature for the Alvin puppet. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
This is Alvin, a fun character in ParaNorman. I made his wallet chains. I also designed a way to make them so they could be animated in the film. I made many sets of chains since there were many Alvin puppets made. I also made arm and hand armature for this puppet. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
The is the "Rapper Dude." He is a background character in ParaNorman. I made his chains out of sterling silver and made them so the animators could animate them in the film. I also made tiny metal hinges for his sunglasses to be able to animate up and down. He does lift his shades in a scene in the movie. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
I made the eyeglasses for this little boy character in ParaNorman out of sterling silver. Another artist, in the paint department, painted the tortoise shell pattern. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
This ParaNorman Zombie has the largest belt buckle of all. I made this buckle out of brass rod that I turned on a lathe. Mitered corners were carefully filed to fit and all pieces were soldered to form the buckle. Once again multiples of this puppet were made and the buckles all had to be the same. I made his shoe buckles out of sterling silver with a darkening patina. I also made armature for his very unusual hands and forearms. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
I made the hat, belt and shoe buckles for this Zombie in ParaNorman. All were fabricated from sterling silver sheet.  They were darkened with a patina. I also made armature for the arms and hands of this puppet. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
I made the belt and shoe buckles for this ParaNorman Zombie and armature for his hands. Multiples of each puppet are made and everything about them has to be identical. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
This is the motorcycle riding sheriff in ParaNorman. I made her brass earrings and also her brass belt buckle.  In the movie her earrings swing back and forth in the motorcycle/car chase scene. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
This is Deputy Dwayne in ParaNorman. I made the brass belt buckle for this puppet. Many artists contribute to creating each character.
