Nature of Opposites- Jacquard

The idea that opposites reinforce each other is built into the Indian notion of existence, may it be nature and man, light and darkness or solid and void. In Rajasthan, the brightly colored costumes and festivals juxtaposed against the golden desertscape balance each other. As counterpoints; they become mutual references and an integral part of a self balancing system. Hence apparent extremes exist in India.

In this jacquard, I have tried to use a traditional color palette, their fading away in some places and introducing creases and folds to reference their journey over time. The jacquard uses 5 wefts, two of which are just floats across the fabric and the other 3 form the base cloth. This piece was inspired by woven samples that I made on a 4-harness loom and overprinted with geometric shapes on them.
