The haveli is a specific kind of construction found in Rajasthan. This built form indicates the identity of the community, the materials used in construction describe the topography and climate of the region and the division of space provides clues to the social structure of society at that time.
With these paintings I have tried to interpret these relationships of geography and communal identity and represented them in a contemporary fashion. The paintings were converted into a repeating surface to be used as wall coverings. The idea was to use these wall coverings for creating accents on one wall in a given space while retaining their painted quality. With these wall coverings I have tried to convey my assessment of this traditional space.
