UMBRA
I enjoyed working on 'Umbra' as its entire process ran in reverse.
I started with the finishing process and the name, then started to draw out objects
that would eventually become the bar stool.
At the time I was experimenting on finishes and learning about its different qualities.
I learned about the effect of different coatings and stains on wood
and how direction of wood grain could enhance these details.
Umbra is latin for shadow. I briefly took up latin in my highschool days always like to put a bit of my personal thoughts into my designs.
The grain is most visible on the seat because light source will hit it from above.
