Crime and Punishment Book Covers

These are book cover designs for the book Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. This classic Russian novel is the tale of murder, madness, and money-problems. What I hope to have accomplished with these cover designs is a better understanding of the story that lays just behind them.

This book cover is a focus on Typography only. I chose the font Impact because it is bold and austere. Crime and Punishment, the two words in the title, are a representation of opposite ideas and the conflict that occurs between them.
This cover design was born from my own knitting needles. The main character of Crime and Punishment is a poor student and his clothing and the apartment he lives in are in a terrible state of disrepair that reflects his mental state. The cloth unraveling is a reflection of the unraveling the main character undergoes mentally over the course of the book.
This book cover endeavors to emphasize the disconnected nature of the crime in the main character's mind as it exists alongside the punishment that inevitably follows. The crime? Murder. The weapon of choice? Of course, an axe.

I encourage anyone who is interested in the internal struggles of mankind to read this book.
