The 2019-2020 seats were a system that took a lot of ergonomic and user testing into consideration. The problem with a system as broad as seats is that we had to design to accommodate a range of different sized users, ranging from size, weight, and body shape, while also focusing on racing ergonomics. This balancing act was carried out by multiple waves of foam seat iterating, as well as creating a jig to best recreate the seating arrangement of the rider on the rover. After many waves of forming, user testing, and mounting angles, we finally landed on a design that fulfilled all our parameters.
The foam positive was covered with resin, mold release, and a fiberglass female mold was pulled from that. We then proceeded to layup with our pre-preg and finally baked it in our oven to cure the resin in the carbon.
