Create For Society - Black Lives Matter

"CREATE FOR SOCIETY" CAMPAIGN
CONCEPT
The Black Lives Matter movement has been around for quite some time now, however it has come to light again recently due to the tragic death of an unarmed black man named George Floyd who was murdered by police officers. Unfortunately, black people being victims of police brutality is nothing new and too often we see protests against it fizzle out of the mainstream circuit after a short while. However i this particular incident, Mr. Floyd's murder was caught on camera and caused an uproar on social media and news media which soon followed, this resulted in the Black Lives Matter movement gaining a massive amount of support from people of all walks of life all over the world and it seems like this time, the protests are not going to fade away. In support of the Black Lives Matter Movement, we decided to further the campaign by designing posters for it as well as apparel which can be worn to show solidarity.

FINAL DIGITAL POSTER
The image on this poster is a portrait of George Floyd. The absence of the pupils in his eyes signify his death and the way he has been immortalized in the movement. The white tears coming from his eyes signify grief, sorrow and despair which are emotions related to his tragic passing. The text "Black Lives Matter" is the name of the movement but is also used to link the portrait to the movement.
FINAL TYPOGRAPHIC POSTER
The image of the fist (Black Lives Matter symbol) is created by repeated text, this text consists of sayings and quotes, these quotes are the last words of a number of police brutality victims before their lives were taken, and the sayings are those which are chanted during protests.
APPAREL
We have chosen to design apparel for people to wear during protests in order to show solidarity to the movement.
RATIONALE
The campaign we have done is to create awareness for and further the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement stands for something very important and awareness and support is required for it to work and also for the protests not to fizzle out. The colour palette we used consisted of five colours. Black, which signifies the Black Lives Matter movement, white in order for the text to stand out and grab the attention of the viewer, and three different shades of brown which represent anti-colourism and were used for shading in the portrait. The image on the digital poster is a portrait of George Floyd. In the typographic poster, he image of the fist (Black Lives Matter symbol) is created by repeated text, this text consists of sayings and quotes, these quotes are the last words of a number of police brutality victims before their lives were taken which sends a powerful message about the way they were killed as they are all very similar statements, and the sayings are those which are chanted during protests. And for the guerrilla campaign idea, We have chosen to design apparel for people to wear during protests in order to show solidarity to the movement, the face masks were also included as a safety and health precaution for the Covid-19 pandemic as people are protesting in large groups.
