The patterned book design visually represents Ghana’s cultural motifs of Adinkra symbols and traditional Kente patterns that are featured in clothing and fabrics. Kente is the most well-known patterned motif of all African traditional textile products to express Ghana’s cultural heritage since the 17th Century.
The name ‘Kente’ relates to the proverb: “A beautiful cloth does not wear itself” in everyday life within the Akan community. The Akan people of Ghana refer to Kente as “Nwentoma”, meaning “woven cloth”. The role for each Kente pattern and dynamic colour composition performs a very important visual representation for Ghanaian history, philosophy, political ethics, oral literature, moral values, social code of conduct, and religious beliefs.
