Stills from There is the Moon, and You

A mood board of stills from my most recent short film There is the Moon, and You.
The film is essentially about how a young girl is forced to deal with the passing of her mother by escaping through her imagination in traveling to the moon.
For the scenes inside the girl's room, I chose to go with a more saturated look with a mix of orange and purple and blue lighting setup. So that I could create a more dreamy setting to reflect on the girl's inner mood and her hope of escaping to another reality.
Her "spaceship" was actually just a tree-house where we decorated with neon lights and cardboard boxes. The blue and purple contrasting lighting helped set up the surrealistic style and mood.
This particular image lingers as the credit rolls. The helmet has always served as a safe place for the girl to escape to and hide in, by the end of the movie she finally meets her mother, learning that the love from her mom will always stay with her and protect her. She has learnt to let go and become strong, the helmet is left in the grass, as she has no need of it any longer.
