Blend Station Coffee Cups

BLEND STATION COFFEE TUMBLERS

Commissioned by Blend Station®, a famous coffee shop located in the heart of Condesa neighborhood within Mexico City, we designed a special coffee cup to reflect the personality of the brand - brand designed byFutura.
Each cup was designed taking into account the capacity for each of the best-selling coffee recipes in the cafeteria. The special request was to have a cup of coffee without a handle to create a closer experience with the visitor.

Initially three different shape proposals were explored. Later only one was chosen and was developed in detail.
The capacity for each cup was really important for this project so we created variations of 3d models until we got to the perfect size and shape for the product.
On the advice of the production team the 3D models were used to print 3D versions of the cups.
We decided to brand the tumblers using the cafeteria logotype over the surface and under the cup and to take advantage of the personality that this decision added to the pieces.
The first prototypes were made using red clay and gradient glaze finish as initially planned. We brought the first cups to the coffee shop to test them with the help of the baristas. We ran some capacity tests considering the reduction the clay suffers once fired. The 4 oz cup dimensions were adjusted to make the top of the cup more comfortable for latte art as a request from the client.
For the final production we decided to use white ceramics. The glazing decisions were made based on the first tests that were carried out in the workshop. When we learned that it was not possible to achieve the gradient finish without errors, we decided on solid color formulas.
