MODELMAKING - Week 10 - Charette

WEEK 10 CHARETTE
MY COMBINATION
tectonic charette and edge charette

TASK PROCESS
Design proposal:
For the past weeks we have focussed on many different styles of architecture. Monolithic, Tectonic and sticks and planes to name a few. This week focusses on your own approach.

Introduction:
"who defines space"

We have investigated several styles in the previous weeks. For the following lesson we are focussing on creating your own set of 'rules'. Using a combination of two styles from the previous weeks to create your set. From this creating a model of any space.

Hypothesis:
By combining two different architectural styles, individuals are able to create new spaces for habitation and production.

Aim:
Creating a house with a range of functions

Scale:
1:50

Materials list:
- clay/play dough
- sticks and planes
- 1 sheets of 180gsm + a4 paper (can use a3, a4 or a5 just varying in scale)
- a3 cutting mat
- Utility knife
- Blu tac
- tape

Method:
1. Prepare your clay/playdough, sticks and planes, 1 sheet of 180gsm+ a4 paper or thin white card and your 1:50 People.

2.Take a sheet of paper, and fold in any direction.

3. Then using a craft knife and cutting board, cut the paper no more than halfway through on the folded side.

4. Resulting in 2 operations of a cut and fold

5. Take your clay and create a surface that fits in the cut

6. Include sticks for extra support if you wish. Use glu tac for extra support.

7. Populate with scale people and photograph the space

8. Repeat steps 2 to 7 one more time to create other spaces both indoor and outdoor.

9. Now using the clay on the outside create a surface that includes shelter.

COMMENTS
I chose this combination because it is the combination that I enjoyed working with the most during this semester.
The outcome was I expected and even better than I expected it to be.
The method was adjusted by combining another method from another week. Instead of making the whole surface out of clay, I instead replaced it with paper and made the smaller surfaces out of clay.
