Founded in 1985, Sharing and Caring Hands provides a safety net for people who cannot obtain help from the welfare system. The organization assists people in a number of ways, including transitional housing at Mary’s Place.

Constructed entirely from donations from Minneapolis community members, Mary’s Place comprises 100 furnished apartments for use by families that are homeless. The building holds 68 large apartments that can house up to 12 people and 32 small apartments that can house up to five people. Mary’s Place currently houses more than 600 people, of which over 400 are children.

Residents of Mary’s Place enjoy various housing amenities offered by traditional apartment buildings, including laundry facilities, a playroom, a computer room, and activity rooms. The building is staffed by sisters from The Immaculate Heart of Mary Mother of Christ. Full-time family advocates are also onsite, working with families to set goals and guide them in their progress toward self-sufficiency.
