Social Cause Campaign

Social Cause Campaign
One of the biggest projects we were tasked with was to create a campaign ad for a social cause of our choosing.

I chose The Trevor Project, which is an organization aimed at suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youths. Having related with this demographic, this is an organization whose cause holds special meaning to me.

A common saying in our vernacular is "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words may never harm me." The unfortunate reality is that this isn't always true, and words can in fact be harmful, and sometimes even fatal. That was the genesis of my campaign.

The idea was to create jarring imagery that evokes an emotional response to the cause they represent.
The first image is relatively simple in concept, but the reality of discriminatory language leading some down the path to suicide is a very common occurrence. Using Adobe Photoshop I engraved derogatory names into each of the bullets, as well as some of the blood. As graphic as the imagery is, I feel it would be a disservice to sugar coat what is in fact a harsh reality.
The assignment called for just one ad, however, there was one more idea I sought to complete. This design is similar in concept, but the applied in a different way. Instead of being engraved into bullets, the same words used in the first image make up the image of a noose.
