2020 B.A. Hons • Redefining Gendered Spaces

A gendered space is a spatial metaphor that can be categorized in a variety of ways. This project is how i represent "neutrality" or "inbetweeness" in terms of Gendered Spaces.

As expounded by Bell Hooks in “Choosing the margin as a space of radical openness”, “neutrality" or "inbetweeness” is the act of opposites coming together to exchange ideas, influence, and understand each other.

The National Design Centre was chosen as a site as it is a place where designers and businesse congregate to exchange ideas. Therefore, this exhibition aims to enhance the current usage of NDC. A programitically diverse space specific to the function of NDC.
Forms of spaces and programmes were arranged to be sequential (both entrances are of extreme opposites and stereotypes of the male and female interior forms and colours with the blurring of both extremes in the middle through light/colours/forms.

In-between zone - where interaction like public speeches/gatherings take place.

The merging of curved and rigid forms with a myriad blend of colours from the colourful acrylic mobiles above is how I represent neutrality to be. The blending of colours and shapes will morph throughout the day in accordance to the sun path.
