Yaowarat has been a bustling commercial centre in Bangkok for more than 200 years. The Chinese settlement was the first official commercial area of the capital and remains a major attraction for local residents and visitors alike.
The Chinatown area along Charoen Krung and Yaowarat roads was mainly used for commercial purposes from the outset, so shophouses and larger commercial buildings still predominate.
