Trivia Train

The 2020 RISD MAKEATHON called for designers to ideate and create new systems, solutions, products, or installations that place an emphasis on the journey. The year's theme: Connecting the Dots, encourages designers and artists to think beyond the final destination and design unique experiences of the in-between journey of people, of systems and of our environments. Our design won 1st place in the one-day design challenge.
Public transit systems like the MBTA makes it easier to get to places. However, individuals care less about their passersby. Trivia Train connects passengers with fellow riders and the communities they zoom through.
Passengers answering questions about the local community while one on their daily commute. They will see how other subway lines are doing compared to themselves.

Questions are provided by local organizations, restaurants, museums and more. We provide opportunities to advertise or raise cultural awareness. Points earned from correct answers become coupons or tickets to our partners.
Even without a phone. Passengers can join the game through interfaces in the vehicle.

Reflection:
This was a successful team effort. We quickly came up with the concepts because everyone participated enthusiastically in the brainstorming process. I focused largely on the visual narrative of our pitch. Other members also aced their roles including directing the design process, engineering physical prototypes and designing the digital interface.
