Not Quite Traditional Practices
Breaking the rules of traditional oil painting
Following include a few assignments from my oil painting class, in which we learned the traditional rules of manipulating oil paints on canvas. While the first half of the assignments were aimed primarily at the mastering of techniques, the professor encouraged us to stretch boundaries with ideas/concepts as well as the ways in which we used the medium.

Unfortunately, I currently do not have photos of all the work that I did in this class. Hopefully though, that shall be coming soon. Bear with me while I figure all this out, please!
This was our first assignment in the class: a monochrome painting of any still life of our won making.
This project encouraged us to use all the colors on our palette and layer them to achieve depth and realism.
This is the result of a limited palette, self-portrait assignment. Colors used were: Titanium white, Cadmium yellow light, Ultramarine blue, Napthol red, and Black.
Nicknamed "Baldie."
Final portrait project, using whatever style we chose. As you can see, I am clearly drawn to bright colors, often using the paints straight from the tube instead of mixing them.
