Platonic Dual Lamp

This lamp, affectionately named Ljampe: the platonic dual lamp, is based on two shapes: the icosahedron and the dodecahedron. These two shapes are two of the Platonic solids, and they happen to be duals of each other. This means that connecting points on the centers of their faces produces the other shape. That is the central idea I hoped to illustrate with ljampe! turning on the lamp illuminates the dual shape.
Soft warm light is perfect for learning.
Craftsmanship was lower than I would've liked, but it was my first attempts at working in a number of materials, like metal and vinyl.
looking at the lamp is good for your brain, looking at the light bulbs directly for too long may be bad for your eyes. Jury's still out though, so I'll just keep looking.
In a perfect world, the lamp would fit into this 3x5 grid (as three and five are very pertinent numbers to the icosahedron and dodecahedron).
I was also honored to have Ljampe featured in the 2020 Bridges Art and Math exhibition! The actual exhibition was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19, but the exhibition is available online and is home to some really incredible work! The exhibition will be available here: http://bridgesmathart.org/bridges-2020/
