Self Portrait - Short ink strokes

INTRODUCTION
This is a self portrait conveying my attempt to become beautiful and likable but when I try to stand up I tend too loose my confidence.
THUMBNAILS:
I tried different poses and added different plastic elements to my portrait. This includes my culture my hobbies and my feelings. I did 20 thumbnails to explore different possibilities. In this process I also thought about scale and difficulty level in order to pick a final image to work with.
MINI STUDY:
I began to work on a 5”x 6.5” bond paper in ink to experiment the highlights and shades for the portrait. I added a plastic element [cracks] on my face to emphasize the meaning behind the portrait.
MATERIALS
INK STUDIES:
I did a few ink studies in 11”x 14” size bond paper in order to practice inking in a larger scale. I used my mini study as reference for shades and highlights. I marked the shades with a pencil and filled the shades with short strokes of ink. As the shade fades the spacing between each stroke increases.
