What is Carnal Vibrations?
Carnal Vibrations is a mock record store that was created as a solo class project which revolved around brand systems, signage, and product designing. Designed as a punk and metal themed record store, the brand comes off as fierce and aggressive as the music the store would sell.
Design Goals
I’ve always been an admirer of loud and aggressive music, so for this project i wanted to design a brand that reflected those values. The main goal was to create a brand and imagine how they would look and feel, and what would they merchandise. My personal goal for the project was to take extreme musical aesthetics and make them modern and my own.
Logo Design
The biggest objective for the logo was to make it match the ferocity of the music being sold in the record shop. To convey this, a hand drawn typeface was used. The slashing strokes represent violence and anger. Another choice for the typeface was to draw each letter as if they were attacking each other. These aspects, combined with a blood tinged red and bone white, the name Carnal Vibrations was pushed literally.
Collateral Designs
The inspiration for the collateral designs was to turn metal and punk aesthetics (combat boots, feral animals, and other visceral themes) into store merchandise such as stickers, tote bags, and promotional posters. This was decided in order to reinforce the store’s themes.
