Bridge Of Dionysus Final Year Project (Spatial Design)

Bridge Of Dionysus (Teenage Alcoholism)
Seeing protection as barriers of confinement.
This project is called “Bridge of Dionysus”. A Greek god, Dionysus, meaning 'the liberator,' because of his wine, music, and ecstatic dance freed his followers from self-consciousness and the restraints of society. Similarly to the youths of today, they see protection as barriers of confinement and often binge drink in public spaces in order to release their stress and frustrations of the personal problems they may face at home which can be seen as an act of defiance by the public. Thus, this project aims to create a platform that allows for the mingling of passers-by and youth without invading the youths’ privacy. The site is situated at Clarke Quay, Singapore at the ORD Bridge where it is more secluded and dark. By forming private spaces that are unseen within the public, framing spaces to form spaces within and creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior within and around the ORD Bridge, it would allow for a hidden connection between the passers-by and youths. These spaces include a sensory garden, viewing tower and healing spaces hidden within a river plaza. This interaction would allow for the youth to unknowingly reach out about their problems such as school or family problems to the passers-by and hence, eventually reduce binge drinking.
