Elmpark Green Urban Quarteris a new city quarter of over 100,000 m2 in Dublin designed by Bucholz McEvoy architects. Elmpark is a lowenergy, high density mixed-use project comprising a private hospital, hotel,offices, apartments and housing for senior citizens, a creche and leisurecentre along with cafes all provided in a landscaped park on 8ha. From the first sketch the main idea wasto minimize the energy demand, maximize density, flexibility, and mix of usewhile creating an elegant and expressive environment. This was achieved by maximizing the benefits of orientationof the buildings, the buildings form and shape, natural light and ventilation,and creating a very large public landscape of water and green. Elmpark has agreatly reduced energy footprint, and as an environment actively puts people ina new relationship with the environment, encouraging them to think about itdifferently
