Interior Design Project - Colour In The Burbs

Colour in Suburbs
who love colour: hot pink and lime green! I have to admit that this doesn't happen very often, but it was refreshing to know that there are men out there that can connect with their inner emotional side, and live in the suburbs. I had an opportunity to use lots of interesting colour combinations as they had no fear. In the Living room I took my cue from an orange and blue rug and painted the walls a deep shade of  midnight and I think it is one of my all time favorites. In the newly decorated family room, I used a combination of a green that sits between a lime and the colour of a fresh new leaf, hot pink and in the adjoining office, a navy. As Dianna Vreenland said, pink is the navy blue of India, so they look amazing together.

Orange and blue are complimentary on the colour wheel. I didn't alter a thing in this room except the wall colour while doing some styling with the accessories. The client feared I would insist she dump the whole lot and start over. Its amazing what the right wall colour can do to pull it all together.
The combination of the contrasting colours creates a dynamic room. Custom made furniture and drapery by Jane Hall.
Some painted white furniture helps the room from become too dark and claustrophobic with the darker coloured walls. Cushion shown ties in with the drapery and is also custom made.
Bathroom done in the classic black and white theme with patterned wallpaper and black and silver accessories.
A soft, almost lettuce green on 3 walls, with a hot pink accent wall were the background for the redo of the family room which was an addition onto the house and overlooked a huge backyard and outdoor pool.  I had a couch made in a textured hot pink fabric, and love seat made in a lime green solid fabric. Two classic 60's tub chairs were re-invented using 5 different co-ordinating Tricia Guild, and Clarke and Clarke cut velvets. A large scale custom ottoman and a white shag rug topped off the look.

Everything here is custom made, from the cushions to the lamps. The colour teal was used in the design of the cushions and it is a darker shade of turquoise which is the colour between green and blue. Teal complements the pink.
I spent a day with the client shopping for accessories and then styling the project to add the details that complete the project.  Great design is in the details
Green, white, pink, black, teal and silver accessories provide another focal point in the room
This view of the room shows the soft lettuce green, hot pink and the navy office. I love hot colours set off against strong dramatic colours like the navy or black and white.

Brightly custom made striped cushions add a nice touch to the simple but fresh green couch.
We also provided the custom lighting and cushions again to add the final touches.
The white shag carpet helps bring out the clean colours and textured surfaces throughout the room while adding warmth to the floors. It also ties in with other white accessories.
