BENDT | door handle

Bendt

A doorhandle that subtly shows the origins of its ergonomic shape.

Idea

A stainless steel round profile is cut in half and forged into the final shape by partial heating and bending it.
The ergonomic bend is created from the excess material, that is coming from the shorter curve radius of the inner half of the profile.

Subtle from a far ...

... a statement up close.

Process

For ideation I mainly experimented with clay. Within that process I came across the gesture of the bend, which is created when the material is pushed together.

From there on I tested the right ergonomics with milled- and heat bendt foam.

Taking references to the built models for scale, the doorhandle was then rebuilt in CAD, 3D-printed & painted.

Final model

The final model was exhibited at "Designforum Steiermark" in july 2019.
