Observation of the Self

1. Silly Face
2. The Soft Smile
3. Oh, Hey There!
4. Stuck in a Dream
5. Reaching Out to Touch the Real World Again
6. Stop and focus
My project was testing the use of lighting. The first three photos I was able to use a backdrop and a hot light to control my photos as well as experiment with different props. The first three photos I wanted to create a simple background so that we could focus more on Laurens emotions and what story she was telling. The first photo is Lauren using a camera as a prop but not in the usual way you use a camera. Laurens use of the phone and her facial expression shows her silly and fun personality. The last three photos were harder to shot. I decided to use a ring light from a mirror and prop my camera on anything I had around me. I wanted this pictures to portray more of a sadness to reflect on the current events. The first three photos were in a time where we could go where ever whenever we pleased so I could go to the studio. The last three photos were taken in a time where I can not leave my house so I am limited to what is in my house. These photos show the longing we all have to leave our rooms, to go explore again, and to see others. One picture I am reaching out towards the camera as if I were reaching out for the real world. I tried to use the backdrop as simply a reminder of how we are stuck in our houses which I think helps with the significants behind these photos. I wanted to keep the editing and color scheme roughly the same because I want the full focus to be in the person, their emotions, and story. These photos show two totally different lives and remind us how quickly our life can change.
