Ready Washed (study project)
Summer School, Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, London, 2011

The project was part of a three-week summer course in interior design at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design. I was given a specific building, the YMCA Gym Center, located near Tottenham Court Road in London. The task was to design an activity to take place inside it, in a maximum of 20 m2. The final result of the project was a book-portfolio.
I decided to offer to the clients of the gym a laundrette service. Very often people carry on bags the whole day, in order to attend gym during the breaks of office hours. Why not to offer a service where gym customers can leave their dirty clothes and towels after the gym and have it clean and ready next time they come to work out? The system is semi automatic: clients leave their clothes, receive a key, and 24h hours later they can collect their cleaned belongings directly from the lockers.
The space consist in a counter, three washing machines, three dryers and a series of lockers were clothes are stored once cleaned. The main piece of the space design consist in the lockers. Their form and repetitive pattern was inspired by the modular architecture of the 1960 YMCA building.
