Form Investigation Project

This project revolved around the idea of how form impacts design.
After defining which form language I wanted to pursue (inspired by the Hercules Dynastes beetle) I created a mood board and psychographic to identify the direction to continue.

My work moved forward with initial sketches, progressing through rapid prototyping, color studies, and exploded views to a final line of product designs.
Initial Form Ideation

After choosing the three products that I wanted to redesign (coffee grinder, kettle, and mug) based on the form language of the moodboard selected I began with initial sketches. I ended up pushing forward with more dramatic examples of smooth curves paired with asymmetrical design
Rapid prototyping in blue foam of concepts that I wanted to pursue. From these studies I was able to change design elements to improve form from all angles along with ergonomics and functionality. At this stage I determined that the coffee grinder was too static and thus had to be redesigned to fit the product line.
Further refined sketches and resign directions for the coffee grinder
Color / Material Studies

After coming to final forms for the products I further investigated color and material choices based on branding direction.
After refining form language and color palette, final renderings and exploded views were completed. All renderings are hand drawn in Photoshop, exploded views created in Illustrator.
