Unnatural Nature

Unnatural Nature

This collection was inspired by the relationship between Earth and Space. I wanted to take natural images and give them a sense of being unnatural interest and wonder with the unknowns of outer space.

The universe and our imaginations are complementary:
both vast, ever growing and demand exploration.
"I Need Space" is my first piece. I found an image of a mountain landscape and altered it in a way that the sky and the lake reflection was of a night sky, adding a twist with an enhanced galaxy view.
"Floating Through Space" was inspired by the beautiful and mysterious way jellyfish look. They're creatures that look like they belong in space, rather than in the ocean. They move and float through the water as if they're defying the laws of physics.
"We're Out Here" and is inspired by the idea of life outside of Earth. There are two ways people have responded to this; some tell me they feel fear seeing the reflection of an alien in an astronauts suit, others find it playful as if the alien is wearing a spacesuit. Really it's up to your imagination to interpret how you want.
"Take It Easy" was originally designed with an pond background, where the koi fish look like they're in their natural habitat. When creating this project I made the artistic decision to change the background so the koi fish are now floating in a galaxy pond. This poster is suppose to evoke a sense of calm and tranquility.
