FINAL Children's Book Project

For our first project in Intermediate Typography, we were assigned to create a children’s book. Though content and subject matter, along with rating, could be chosen by use. We had to choose a song, and somehow illustrate and design the book completely.
I think the hardest part of this entire project for me, was choosing a song to do. I had so many in my head that I could imagine illustrating and typing out to life. I tried everything from Flogging Molly to ACDC. But in the end, I decided to use Angela by The Lumineers. I wanted there to be plenty of color and texture. The research I conducted was A.) out of class where I payed more close attention to the songs I was listening too, almost like creating a tiny music video in my head. And B.) visiting the local library and checking out their children’s book collection to not only get an idea on content but layout and type.
My process was long and kind of annoying (in the best way). After many library trips and repeating my chosen song over and over again, I began sketching out my ideas in my head. This song really matched my style of design, which in turn made this project a whole lot more easy. I designed each page individually and illustrated all of the images by hand. It was very time consuming but I am so happy with the end result.
I learned more about InDesign in the project. I have grown to love InDesign over the years, but each time I am assigned to do a project like this, I have no other choice but to learn more, I learned more about being patient. Considering I had to restart completely over, at the almost deadline to send off to print, I can say that my tolerance for slow computers has expanded.
