A Dress for My Little Brother

This is a knitted garment that was inspired by my personal memory. Back when I lived in South Korea, I had a family tradition to go to the local bath house every Friday night. My mother, my little brother, and I would go to wash away our stress from the week. It was something very special and intimate time. After moving to America, my family and I would reminisce about the Korean bath house. What was unique about this memory is that the bath house was separated by gender and my brother was not allowed to come in with me and my mother. My brother was so young and he was afraid to go to the men's side all by himself. Then one day, my mom and I came up with a clever idea to secretly bring my brother to the women's bath house. We dressed my brother in my ballet dress and decorated him to look like a little girl. The solution was successful every time.

In order to recreate this magical memory, I decided to recreate my brother's bath costume. Through this project, I experimented with various garment making techniques on the machine knitting.

The lady at the front desk will always remember my brother as a little girl.
