Reconstruction of a Teotihuacan-Style Temple

This project is a commission from Oswaldo Chinchilla Mazariegos, an anthropology professor at Yale University. We collaborated to reconstruct an accurate style of architecture that was most likely utilized in Escuintla, Guatemala by the Mayan civilization that lived there. Unlike previous conceptualizations, this one features a roofcomb at the top of the temple that this professor believes existed based on ceramic censors of the temples from that period. The illustration was digitally painted in Photoshop. This illustration has been published in the 2019 edition of the Res: Anthropology and Aesthetics journal by the University of Chicago Press. The color version is exhibited online while the grayscale has been printed. Check out the journal here: https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1086/705019
