The Windmills of Kinderdijk

The windmills of Kinderdijk, UNESCO World Heritage Site
Kinderdijk is a village in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It is located very close to Rotterdam, where I was staying for several days in December 2019. This place is famous for the Windmills and, of course,  for the beautiful scenery everywhere around.  These Windmills were built around 1740 to prevent the area from floods.  It is a very interesting and picturesque landmark. I want to show and share with you some images that I took there. Visit to Kinderdijk was one of the favorite parts of my trip to the Netherlands
It is better to take a boat ride from Rotterdam to a place called Alblasserwaard and then bike to Kindredijk itself to see more of the area. The surroundings are really pretty: the perfect Dutch Neighborhoods with these cute suburban houses. Twenty minutes of pleasurable, however, windy ride, and you are finally approaching to Kinderdijk
The thing that amazed me the most was that people lived (and some people still do) inside of the Windmills. There are actual kitchen, living room, bedrooms. You can't visit the Windmills, where people stay nowadays, however you can take a look at two Windmills, that were turned into museums. One of them is presented at the next image. Also you can see how it looked inside. The interior was simple back then, but very pretty
Another Windmill that is opened for the visitors. A bit bigger than the previous one
After visiting all the museums, we just continued the ride and enjoyed the scenery, till the sun started going down. After a while we headed back to Rotterdam. It was an amazing day full of interesting facts about Dutch History, and incredible views of Kinderdijk and its' Windmills

Thank you for your attention!

Hope you enjoyed the photos
