Risograph Print Experiments

What
I made different sets of risograph ("riso") prints using a risograph machine. This project is a small documentation of different sets of these prints.

How
The printing technique involves the making of 'masters' – halftone screens created from black and white colour separations of a parent image.

Why
My first experience with a riso machine. Some prints were made for a class, while many were simply curious experiments with the medium.

Where
All prints were made in The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, during my semester-long exchange program.

When
Created between October–December, 2019.
GROUP PROJECT – Experimental Graffiti Riso
Project done in collaboration with Ioannis M., Andon B. and Anak N. from The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, Netherlands.
(above, below) Four of us first made a large graffiti on twice the size of an A0 paper. We then took photos of parts of this paper, and made the 'masters' from these photos. We also added some text and shapes masters during the printing process.
There was no structured print design we had in mind. We simply added and removed masters for almost each print, and thus ended up with many prints, almost all originals.
SOLO PROJECT – Buildings, The Hague
(above) The four color separations - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (CMYK)

(below) The overlay masters - Red halftone circle and golden 'Haag' gradient
SOLO PROJECT – Riso with physical masters
(below) For this print cycle, I used physical items glued to a transparent film paper. I made a couple of collages and even had a few leaves and flowers in a third collage.
(above, below) I was satisfied with the results as a soft texture. I experimented with different colors of paper and printing ink.
