Urban Landscape Design of Navvab Highway- 2008

A Urban Landscape Design of Navvab Highway Area - 2008
Tehran- Iran
Navvab highway is one of important transportation means in Tehran, connecting south to north. Surrounding this highway new high rise buildings have been built, while the previous urban setting is composed of organic developed house clusters. This project was about building an urban courtyard over the highway, connecting buildings surrounding the highway. My concept was to divide the landscape into two different scale levels. One was relating most to the local scale buildings, and one at the south with a more urban scale. The first section was constructed of different scaled and shaped courtyards, while bridges connected the buildings and notified of the change in scales. The buildings’ scale also changed until they reached to the focal point, the lookout. Underneath this lookout another highway is passing. People would be able to have the highest lookout to both sections through this space. The concept for the lookout was also influenced by Iranian styled gazebos. The Urban Courtyard consisted of larger scaled buildings that could have commercial functionality. The Landscape design of the yards was composed of human scaled elements, gathering spaces, lookouts and water features.
