For this project, we were asked to design a cover for Observer Magazine, along with two feature articles. The cover reflects the first feature article "Dark Crystals: The Brutal Reality behind a Booming Wellness Craze."
For the "Dark Crystals" article, I developed a concept that highlighted both the use of the crystals and the dark means in which they are mined and produced. I then applied an illustration style that could carry throughout the spreads along with the cover of the magazine.
The next feature, titled "Will there Ever be a Cure for Chronic Pain," discussed the uncomfortable and difficult subject of chronic pain, and what the medical field is exploring as possible remedies. I decided to depict an overflowing pill dispenser with ibuprofen to show the never-ending suffering and drugs many chronic pain patients must handle every day.
