This model was created as part of a project researching fur in realtime; rendered in Unreal Engine 4, the material developed uses the shell technique (the layering of many polygons with alpha masks, aligned so that their cross sections appear to create a continuous strand of fur) in order to approximate fur, and uses texture maps for things like groom direction and length.
From left to right, up to down: fur shells, left/right groom direction, locations where the fur can grow, up/down groom direction, fur length and base colour. Things like fur thickness and length can also be tweaked within the material.
