My Asian mother expresses her love through her actions especially from cooking. From when I was young, I've always wanted verbal affirmation shown on American television. A bittersweet disconnect.

But this kind of love is quiet, and unassuming. Growing up I've felt, this love that I finally understand and appreciate. The saying I heard when I was young, "mom likes to eat fish head" (妈妈爱吃鱼头). It's not tasty. It's bony. But I would always get to savor the fillet.
