Chemotherapy Patient Laundry Bin

Chemotherapy causes some cancer patients to emit radiation through their sweat for several days after treatment. Doctors recommend patients' clothing be stored in Ziploc bags (polypropylene) to contain the radiation. Seeking to create a better experience, I designed a laundry hamper combining traditional basket-weaving techniques with polypropylene rope. The coil basket technique allows the hamper to convey warmth through its irregular shape, pattern, tactility and color.  Yellow was chosen for its duality--hospitals use it to indicate radioactive waste, yet it is a color associated with sunshine and happiness.
